Hebrews4:15-16

Scripture:

Hebrews4:15-16  “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (NASB)

Observation:

Spending time with the local Teen Challenge men, the topic of how much we had in common with each other came up. Teen Challenge is a substance abuse recovery program focusing on Christ and healing from addiction. As we end the week of addiction victory, we find today’s scripture sharing that we do not have a high priest (Jesus) who cannot sympathize with our weakness.

I am sure that Christ didn’t have any addictions, but the verse goes on to share that he was tempted in all things as we are. The more we shared at the Teen Challenge breakfast, the more “in common” things we found. Men with addictions come from all types of backgrounds and all types of lifestyles but we can draw near with confidence to the throne of grace because of Jesus Christ and to each other to help us find the addiction victory in Christ.

Application:

1) Think about what you just read.

2) Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and insight.

3) Share this with someone who would benefit from reading it.

4) Make sure others see Jesus in YOU today.
