Proverbs 16:19

Scripture:

Proverbs 16:19  “It is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud.” (NASB)

Observation:

It came down to choice, as it always does. While working on a job site, we had finished up for the day and some of the guys were heading out to the local restaurant for a bite to eat before heading home. All except one guy. I could see the look on his face when the guys announced where they were heading, his eyes went down followed by his head. When asked if he was coming, he shyly replied, “No.” Not until everyone left, did I ask him why he wasn't coming. He simply replied, "I have a problem going to those places." I wasn't sure what he meant, but as we talked further, he confided in me that he was an alcoholic and going to those places only made the decision to drink easier. He went on to say that he was sober for over a year, and this was the longest he ever held a job. He didn't want to lose this one. We spent the next few hours at a coffee shop getting to know each other better.

Today's scripture speaks that it's better to be humble in spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud. I came away that night blessed knowing I helped someone make the right decision, the right choice. Are we making the right choices when it comes to who we hang out with?
