James 3:8

Scripture: 

James 3:8  “But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison.” (NASB)

Observation:

How many times have I opened my mouth without thinking first and hurt someone? How many moments where I spoke in a manner that is contrary to God’s love? When did it become the norm to hurt each other by insulting as if in some childhood game? We have all seen it, and some of us have participated in it. We smile and laugh along as if nothing is wrong, but when we are alone, the pain of the situation becomes real. 

Many people will never be the same after a verbal attack spoken in the guise of fun. I think almost all of us, at one time or another, have been on the receiving end of a bad joke. Remember what it felt like as they laughed and jeered? May we remember that pain and use it to show love. May we use it as a reminder to be careful not to speak without thinking. A reminder that our speech be pleasing unto the Lord always not just Sunday morning. 

Application:

2) Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and insight.

3) Share this with someone who would benefit from reading it.

4) Make sure others see Jesus in YOU today.
