Proverbs 18:13

Scripture:

Proverbs 18:13 (NASB) “He who gives an answer before he hears, It is folly and shame to him.”

Observation:

Despite my severe hearing loss, I need to listen better before I speak. I need to turn it up a notch as far as my role as a husband. Thinking back over 25 years ago, to when the two of us stood face-to-face in front of God, our families, and our friends and uttered two words that would forever change our lives – two simple words – “I do.” We agreed that no matter what – good times and bad, sickness and health –  we would love each other. We didn’t say “I will” or “I’ll try.” No. We said, “I do,” and that means action. A second-by-second honoring of a vow made when we were madly in love. When nothing else mattered in the world but just the two of us.

I find myself striving to be that man who said, “I do,” because I really do. I pray that we take some time to examine just where we are as husbands and how we are honoring our father-in-law’s daughters. Having three daughters myself, I pray that the men who marry them will in fact love them as godly husbands and the husband I try to be every day. Try listening instead of talking, for the verse says, “It is folly and shame to him!”

2) Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and insight.

3) Share this with someone who would benefit from reading it.

4) Make sure others see Jesus in YOU today.
