Proverbs 17:14

Scripture:

Proverbs 17:14 (NASB) “The beginning of strife is like letting out water, So abandon the quarrel before it breaks out.”

Observation:

The middle of fighting a fire is not the time to come up with a new strategy for putting it out. We needed to train before the fire to make sure everyone knew just what to do as we entered the burning building. If you asked any general if during battle is the right time to have a discussion on strategy, his reply would be a resounding NO. So why would we want to try and discuss our relationship when things are in “battle mode?”

My wife, Carolyn, and I spend time talking about our differences before they occur. We have come up with a strategy where we are “purposeful” in trying to solve issues BEFORE they occur and have a plan in place when the differences do occur. The more time spent in discussion about our strategy, the better the outcome when the stress of the situation seems to take over. We must be honest and know that those times of disagreement will come, but if we do our “home” work, we will pass the test! Have you spent enough time discussing strategy?

Application:

1) Think about what you just read.

2) Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and insight.

3) Share this with someone who would benefit from reading it.

4) Make sure others see Jesus in YOU today.
