Romans 1:16

Scripture:

Romans 1:16 (ESV) “ For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”

Observation:

Before they entered the park, they began to hand out t-shirts. While on vacation with my family, I happened to notice this large group of people--men, women, and children of all ages--behind a vehicle in the parking lot. The person in charge began to hand out shirts so the whole group would look the same while they enjoyed the park. Today’s verse speaks of not being ashamed of the gospel. The t-shirts were all the same color and had a family name printed on the back with their individual names on the front. They were saying to the world, ‘We belong to this family.’ They were not ashamed to let the world know they were identified as being part of their family (even with crazy uncle Harry)! I couldn’t help but think that those who know Christ are family, and we should not be ashamed to let the world know that we belong to Him. What shirt are you wearing? With whom or what are you identified today?

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
