1 Corinthians 10:12-13

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 (ESV) “Therefore, let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Observation:

I have no problem walking right past those tempting chocolate bars at the checkout counter at the grocery store. Those things are there to be a temptation! How have I developed such strength and discipline? Easy. I dislike chocolate. Who dislikes chocolate? you might ask. Me and a few others I suppose. But when the things that really DO tempt me step in front of me I need to be able to hold firm to today’s verse. It’s comforting knowing that God will not allow temptation beyond my ability to resist to ever cross my path. Also notice that God always provides ‘a way of escape.’ You’re not hopeless in your temptation. There is an escape route close by! Ask God to help you find it. And stay strong in your commitment to Him, doing His work, and pleasing Him in your words and deeds.

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
