1 John 3:17

Scripture:

1 John 3:17 “But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?” (NASB)

Observation:

My dad and I had just left the dock full throttle so we could begin our way to our favorite fishing spot, when suddenly the steering knuckle broke and the boat began to circle at full speed throwing both of us to the floor. We managed to get back to our feet and Dad grabbed the controls and slowed the boat down. We ended up fixing the problem, but it taught us both a lesson about hanging on a little tighter and not to take things for granted. So here is some simple advice when we are living faith at full throttle: make sure that you are steering in the right direction and hanging on tight to the steering wheel (Christ) or you could end up going in circles. So the question for today:
Are we holding tight and pointed in His direction?

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
