Read 2 Samuel 5:1-5 – Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.’” Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah. (NKJV)
God is not the only one who keeps a record. After the many years where David didn’t get what he deserved, this day brings accounts up-to-date. David is now to become king and the people want him because of all he has done. As a leader, it’s difficult to wait for this day. For some, it never comes in this life. But God will make all things right and good if we will trust in Him. Doing good is always the right way to live regardless of the immediate response of others. People may reject us for a time, but righteous conduct is full of reward, both in this life and in the one to come. It’s said, “People get the leadership they deserve.” Live righteously in all things and you may end up being the leader that people have been waiting for.
