Fundamental Truth: The Fall of Man (Part 3)

Read Genesis 3:6 – When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Man was created good and upright; for God said, "Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness." However, man by voluntary transgression fell and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God.

If you look at what you should be avoiding, you will end up increasing your attraction to that object. Eve looked on the fruit; we don’t know how long. I have a feeling that the control she lost was not immediate. Maybe it was days or weeks, but over time the fruit became appealing to the eyes. Later it became desirable to the heart. She compromised her thinking and convinced herself that it would be logical to possess the fruit. She believed the fruit could make her wise. What could have made her wise was to obey God. But she justified her newly acquired desire as a means to wisdom and she partook of it. Her gaze went from the offensive, to appealing to the eyes, to the desire of the heart, to the compromise of the mind, to the partaking of the sin and finally to the sharing of the sin. The result of sin was death – something only Jesus Christ would be able to turn around through His death and resurrection.
