Read Genesis 2:17 – But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.
Man was created good and upright; for God said, "Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness." However, man by voluntary transgression fell and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God.
Man was created perfect and in the very image of God. He was given authority to rule the earth, the animals and his life. Sickness and death had no power over him. The devil could not touch him in any way. Man was free in every respect, even free to choose to obey or to disobey God. It was this freedom that allowed man the choice to disobey and bring on himself the penalty for disobedience. The penalty for sin is death, sickness, pain and bondage. All of this was the choice of man, not the choice of God for man!
