Read Ecclesiastes 2:22-23 – What does a man get for all the toil and anxious striving with which he labors under the sun? All his days his work is pain and grief; even at night his mind does not rest. This too is meaningless.
“What does a man get…?” The answer to Solomon’s question is “nothing!” All the striving and fighting for gain in this life is gone in an instant. After a man leaves this world all that he felt was important is no longer of any value. Only the eternal things that he has labored for will be of any worth at that moment. Life is fragile and the things of earthly value are meaningless at death. Live and strive for the eternal things. The things that moth and rust cannot destroy and thieves cannot steal are the important things. A million dollars of gold is great unless you are on a sinking ship with it on board. No man would sink with a load of gold when he can swim with his life. Look at your life and live because if you look to your gold you will drown.
