Questions from a Wayward Man

Read Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 – What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time.

In Ecclesiastes 1:10, Solomon’s second question is, “Is there anything of which one can say, “Look! This is something new”? Look around and you will find that there is nothing around where you live that has lasted much longer than a few generations. Everything that man develops is used during his time and when he is gone what remains grows old and blends back into the landscape or rots to the ground. No matter how hard men work, everything they build will fall one day. It will no longer be useful and through neglect or decay it will be lost to the world. Look at the mountains and the sea and we see the eternity of God and the limitations of man. They have meaning and durability where what we create is meaningless and weak.
