Matthew 28:19-20

Scripture:

Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NASB)

Observation:

With Spring upon us, my heart has turned to gardening. I couldn't help but think how preparing the soil, planting seeds, watering them, and keeping a watchful eye on them is a lot like witnessing for Christ. Today's verse speaks of a command of Jesus to not only His Disciples but to us who know Christ as well. It was to go and make disciples - to witness Christ's love, to spread the "seed," if you will, of God's love for His people. Like gardening, it's not enough to prepared the soil or just plant the seed and then let things go. We need to be watering, pulling weeds, keeping a watchful eye out for those we share Christ with. We may not see the harvest we want but we may. That's if we are faithful gardeners who care more about what we planted than what we reap! So, let's plant some seeds today and make sure tomorrow we take care of them as well. Sounds like a wonderful church garden, if you ask me!

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
