Romans 8:5

Scripture: 

Romans 8:5  “For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” (NASB) 

Observation:

My mind said, "Get out!" However, something in my spirit said, "Keep going!" We were searching for a person reported to be in the burning building. As we crawled along the dark, hot, smoky second floor, we could tell the fire was getting worse with each passing minute. That's when my mind said to get out, but deep within I felt a leading to keep going, one more room to check.

Today's verse speaks of those of us who are being led by our flesh. Our minds are set on fleshly things, but those of us who know the Spirit of God are being led by the Spirit. Turning the corner to the last room before we were to bail out, we found a man lying unconscious due to the smoke. We carried him to safety. If I had listened to my flesh, we would never have found him. I wonder how many times we are led by the Spirit to act, and yet follow where our flesh leads. Let's make sure we are listening to the Spirit of God instead of our flesh.  

Application:

1) Think about what you just read.

2) Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and insight.

3) Share this with someone who would benefit from reading it.

4) Make sure others see Jesus in YOU today.
