Scripture:
Colossians 3:12 (NASB) “So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Observation:
As the day began, the rain drops began slowly then built to a downpour. Before I went out for a day of working outside, I checked the weather report. It said light rain then steady downpours. It was a good thing I checked, because I had taken my rain gear out of my truck a few days before. As I started the day, I really didn't need the gear, but as the rain continued, I was glad I had put it back in the truck and glad I put it on. Nothing like working in the rain and having the right gear for the job is a must if we are to finish the job we start. Today's verse speaks of putting on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Just think about your day…we know it is possible that we will run into trouble along the way while dealing with others, but just imagine if we put on those character qualities listed in today's verse. We may be able to turn the other cheek to some of the things that would normally derail our day. Being prepared for what the day will bring will help get us through it.
Application:
- Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
- Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
