Scripture:
Luke 22:42 “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.” (NASB)
Observation:
“Okay, take this brush and clean those toilets.” During my first week at the fire department, my officer gave me the instructions for the house cleaning chores that needed to be done. I really didn’t want to clean toilets; I wanted to fight fires, but sometimes we need to do what is asked of us even though we don’t want to. Today’s verse, Jesus was saying that God’s way was not really the way He wanted to go, but He would be faithful in keeping the promise to do His Father’s will.
God is calling each of us to do His Will. Doing God’s Will may be as simple as extending kindness to your family or that neighbor who drives you nuts. It maybe the co-worker who gets under your skin, the family you know is struggling financially, or cleaning toilets in the church. If you listen for His voice, He will guide your hand. Remember it’s not about our will but His.
Application:
1) Think about what you just read.
2) Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and insight.
3) Share this with someone who would benefit from reading it.
4) Make sure others see Jesus in YOU today.
