Galatians 5:1

Scripture:

Galatians 5:1 (NASB) “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”

Observation:

There was a time when my family didn't look forward to a holiday. I know it sounds kind of weird, but when your father has an anger problem, holidays seemed to be the day when things went from bad to worse. That was before I began to live for Jesus Christ. Today's verse speaks of the freedom that Christ has given to those who know Him, and that we are to stand firm in that freedom and not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. I was a slave to my anger; it was controlling my life and ruining it. Family would walk on eggshells around me, wondering what would set me off. Coming to know Christ and living for Him made days when things would normally be a scary thought become a day of love, fun, and laughter. Don't be subject to the yoke of slavery that chains you down; find the freedom in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit to break the chains and find love and life without chains. Each day can be a blessing to those around you, if we stand firm upon the Rock of our salvation. So stand tall in Him and others will be blessed.

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
