1 Timothy 4:7-8

Scripture:

1 Timothy 4:7-8 (NASB) “But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

Observation:

I was rounding the corner on my fifth mile at soccer practice my senior year, and I remember thinking to myself, as my legs were burning and I was out of breath, “Why? Why did we have to run five miles each Saturday the month before the season started?” When it came to game day and it was the last minutes of play, we found out why those miles were so important.

Our team had the stamina to finish strong when the other team seemed to fade. Sure, we can take the short cut and read what God’s Word means to someone else, but what does God want US to hear as we read and meditate upon the greatest story ever told? Don’t cheat Him out; be disciplined in our godliness for that is what is profitable. We will find the strength to run the race till the end.

Application:

1) Think about what you just read.

2) Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and insight.

3) Share this with someone who would benefit from reading it.

4) Make sure others see Jesus in YOU today.
