Matthew 9:38

Scripture:

Matthew 9:38 (ESV) “Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Observation:

Some are half an inch deep while others a full inch. Some need room to grow while others can be right next to each other. While planting our backyard garden, I began to read the back of each seed packet. Each was unique with its own specific instructions on how best to plant the seeds within. Today's verse is a prayer request from God. Have you prayed it? I can’t help but think that planting garden seeds is just like sharing Christ. Some people you need to go deep with, while others need only a few words. Some come to know Jesus in a group setting while others need the one-on-one interaction. The key of course, like planting seeds, is making sure the soil is right for planting. We don't need fertilizer when sharing Christ, because we have the Holy Spirit who prepares the soil for the harvest. So our task today is to pray for the laborers to plant the seeds. As we pray today, be aware that at any moment it could be YOU who plants a seed somewhere. Let's embrace God’s request and go plant a garden of souls!

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
