Scripture:
Acts 20:35 – In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, it is more blessed to give than to receive (NASB).
Observation:
It was 3:30 in the morning when the phone rang. It was the medical unit response calling to say that an old neighbor of ours had either fallen or pressed her alarm and needed some help. We had moved to a new home, but we were still listed as the first people to call if Irene needed help. We had built a relationship with her and her husband, Tony, while we lived next door. He has passed away, leaving Irene all alone in her house. Sure there was family, but they lived too far away to respond if help was needed. So I got up, dressed, and headed over. She was fine; she had inadvertently pressed her alarm button and was too embarrassed to respond to the medics when they called. When she asked if I could say a while, I said, "Sure." She put on some tea and we chatted. That's what today's scripture is truly about, helping people when they need it, even in the early morning hours. Will you answer when helping people when they need it despite any inconvenience it may put you in?
Application:
- Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
- Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
