Wednesdays with Moses

Read Exodus 12:16-17 – On the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you. No manner of work shall be done on them; but that which everyone must eat—that only may be prepared by you. So you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I will have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as an everlasting ordinance. (NKJV)

How’s your memory? Perhaps you think the best way to answer is to remember the last time you forgot a few things you were supposed to keep track of. But most of us are far more forgetful than we realize. We quickly forget the things that people don’t require us to remember, and we often never notice. This passage offers God’s visual strategy for helping His people remember the Passover night. Now, you might think such a night would be unforgettable, but think of some of the great moments you’ve enjoyed with God. Do you remember where you were the last time God healed you? How about when He protected you in a frightening moment or answered your prayers for a family member? Truth is, it’s easy to forget. Your memory is a critical tool for spiritual growth. While we may not plan feasts or sacrifice animals to celebrate important moments, we should consider the steps we need to take to help us remember the power and the blessings of God.
