Wednesdays with Moses

Read Exodus 8:18-19 – Now the magicians so worked with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not. So there were lice on man and beast. Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, just as the Lord had said. (NKJV)

What does it take for you to recognize God is at work around you? For Pharoah’s magicians, a stick turned to a snake, a leprous hand, a bloody Nile, and even a plague of frogs hadn’t convinced them. Somehow lice did. Their inability to manufacture their own lice colonies proved to them that God was real. But Pharaoh remained stubbornly unconvinced. Sadly, it can take a lot for God’s own people to recognize His hand. As long as we can explain daily events in a rational way, we don’t see God’s hand. In fact, we often only see God when He does something we can’t do—the same as Pharoah’s magicians. Shouldn’t His people know Him well enough to see His hand more clearly? Maybe we don’t see because we haven’t really been watching for Him. Perhaps if we spend today watching for God’s hand, we will see what we have been missing.
