Read Joshua 4:20-24 – And those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal. Then he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’ then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel crossed over this Jordan on dry land’; for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over, that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.” (NKJV)
How have the victory stories of your life affected your family? Have you told your wife and kids of the great moments God has orchestrated around you? Those moments are more important than the funny or embarrassing life stories we more easily tell. Our stories can play a major role in our kids’ decisions to trust God. Family miracles are a powerful heritage. I can’t begin to measure the number of ways my grandfather’s life journey has impacted me. And when I think of the ways God has worked in my parents’ lives, both individually and together, I am quickly reminded that I can trust God for my challenges too. And God has already worked several major moments for my sons, so we rehearse those as well. Of course, we talk about baseball and the upcoming NFL season, but we must also tell the greater stories of God’s work in our lives. Those produce good results in every season.
