Read Exodus 6:10-13 – And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Go in, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the children of Israel go out of his land.” And Moses spoke before the Lord, saying, “The children of Israel have not heeded me. How then shall Pharaoh heed me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?” Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, and gave them a command for the children of Israel and for Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt. (NKJV)
God’s directives seldom seem man-sized. Moses’ question is legitimate. Indeed, if we were counseling him, we would raise the same question—if your own people aren’t behind you, why would Pharaoh listen to you? But there are times when God’s directives can launch you in directions that seem to defy conventional wisdom. Of course, that doesn’t give us license to act foolishly, but when we know God has spoken, we must obey Him. God knew Pharaoh wouldn’t say “yes.” His plan was to use the Egyptian leader’s obstinacy as a means of judgment on the people that had tormented Israel. God had a plan, and Pharaoh’s rejection played a large part. Similarly, when we question God, we may not see His larger purpose. That’s why obedience is the only sensible response.
