Read Joshua 2:8-11 – Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof, and said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. …” (NKJV)
Though Joshua isn’t in this particular scene, the life he is living sure is. Rahab’s words underscore the power of our testimony in the lives of others. She has come to believe in Israel’s God because of the things she sees God doing among them. Notice her deep expression of faith and understanding of God’s greatness, all because of what she’s heard from their journey. That’s how God wants to work in us too. He wants to make Himself known by being great in our lives. This is the whole idea of God receiving glory. To glorify is to make known. That’s God’s pattern for revealing Himself to mankind. He chose a group of people through which to demonstrate who He is, and as they trusted Him, He wrote amazing stories. He still wants to do that today through those of us who know Him and have experienced His love and power.
