Read Exodus 5:1-2 – Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’” And Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go.” (NKJV)
Honestly, there aren’t a lot of moments in Moses’ life that correspond closely with the stuff we face. Leading millions of people, parting water to cross a sea, finding manna on the ground each morning and catching quail with our bare hands just don’t come up often in everyday life. But hearing someone say to us what Pharaoh said to Moses, well, that sounds familiar. Truth is, many of the people we meet each day don’t know the God that guides our lives. In fact, a good number of those people don’t seem to want to know Him, so how we choose to live our lives makes no sense to them. Can you handle that rejection? Can you face the daily challenge of being misunderstood by people who seem to hold your job or your neighborhood in their hands? In those moments you really have to know what you know. You have to stand firm in the confidence that the God you know is, in fact, the one true God of this Universe. Don’t let go of that!
