Read Genesis 15:4-6 – And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. (NKJV)
How do you respond to the promises of God? When you hear them, do you say, “Well, that would be great, but I’m not sure God will do that for me”? Do you accept God at His Word and immediately put your trust in what He says? In today’s Scripture reading, the text says that Abram “believed in the Lord and He accounted it to him as righteousness.” Now that’s quite a statement. God decided that Abram’s willingness to trust Him would count as though Abram was doing right things. In other words, Abram’s faith made him right in God’s eyes. That’s what the gospel tells us too. We are saved by faith, not by works. Good thing because our works will never be good enough. Our faith meets God’s standard…because God says so. Sounds like a really good reason to believe what God promises us.
