Men of Character

Read 1 Timothy 5:8 – If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

What a stern and direct statement from the Apostle Paul. We should work hard, and maybe get a second job, to make sure we are providing adequately. If a used car is good, how much better to have a new car? And instead of the two car garage, how happy would my family be if we had a three car garage? STOP!
The message Paul is trying to convey in this passage is the importance of a man taking on the role of leader, protector, father, husband and provider for the family. If you fail to fill any of these roles, you fail to provide for your family. A provider can be so without earning great wages. A provider of a family nurtures, loves, disciplines, leads and cares for all of the needs of the family. How are you doing as God’s provider for your family?
