Acts 19:2

Scripture:

Acts 19:2 “He said to them, ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?’ And they said to him, ‘No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.’” (NASB)

Observation:

It was during a training exercise that the officer in charge asked us if we had heard about positive pressure ventilation. The crew and I had not heard of the new PPV techniques when we were in rookie school, so we were anxious to hear all about it. The scripture reading speaks about Paul meeting with some people and asking a simple question regarding the Holy Spirit. The crew and I knew about ventilation but not about the PPV system, so we needed to learn more about it. At some point in our walk with Christ, we may have heard about the Holy Spirit and the power available to us, but I wonder if we need to learn more. In the Discipleship Resource entitled “50 Days of Fire” there is a lesson entitled “Holy Spirit in 3D” where we learn how D. L. Moody learned how the prayer of a few women made the Holy Spirit come alive within him. As the crew and I finished the lesson on PPV, we learned just how valuable it was to clear the smoke and heat out of a fire building and were anxious to put it into practice. I wonder if we have the same expectance when it comes to receiving the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives? Peace, tom

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
