Acts 1:13

Scripture:

Acts 1:13 “When they had entered the city, they went up to the upper room where they were staying; that is, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.” (NASB)

Observation:

The last thing we did as a family before she left was have dinner together. One of daughters was going away for college; so, we gathered the family together to have one last meal with her and enjoy time with her. Today's verse speaks of those who were with Jesus as they had the "Last Supper" together. It was the last time they were all together before Jesus was to face the cross. Although we were saddened that our daughter was moving away for a while, we took comfort in the fact that she was gaining knowledge in her field of study, and we knew she would be home again. Those gathered with Jesus didn't know what the future held for them, but we do. I couldn't help but think of the names of those listed in the verse, and I thought to myself that there is room for each of us at His table to celebrate Jesus' life and death and His resurrection. Maybe we should rename the "Last Supper" as the "Ongoing Supper" for we can share in His body and blood and remember in His name. Why not pull up a chair and sit with Jesus for a while this week? He's been waiting for you!

Application:

• Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love. 
• Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
