Scripture:
Matthew 6:22 “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.” (NASB)
Observation:
Sometimes I get caught in a trap and lose focus. I enjoy reading books. The problem arises when I read too many of them at the same time. I find myself losing focus on which book said what and where I learned this or that. If I want to go back and look it up, I can’t remember which book it came from. Today’s verse speaks of the eye as a lamp to the body. If your eye is clear your whole body will be full of light.
Jesus was sharing how the eye can be focused on either good or bad and we need to make sure we focus our eyes on the right things – like not reading too many books at the same time. Maybe you’ve found yourself with too many irons in the fire and are not sure which one to go to next, or your calendar is so filled that there isn’t a moment to focus on the important issues. It may be time to set some things aside and focus on one main thing - Jesus and His teachings. Maybe it’s time to take the blinders off and make sure our eyes are really the lamps to our bodies. My mom used to say that the eye is a window to your soul. Maybe it’s time we clean them out!
Application:
1) Think about what you just read.
2) Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and insight.
3) Share this with someone who would benefit from reading it.
4) Make sure others see Jesus in YOU today.
