Psalm 37:7

 Scripture:

Psalm 37:7 (ESV) “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!”

Observation:

So often today, with our ‘I must have it now’ society, waiting seems just too difficult for us. Patience seems to be a thing of the past and I am sorry to say that it is getting worse, especially with our children. I wonder if it maybe that we are too busy with just doingthings that we never have the time for waiting. Or is it that we just don’t have patience or rust? Or have we become so selfish that there is no longer any willingness to sacrifice for others? People don’t seem to give, or give of themselves for anyone. One thing I liked to do was fish with my dad. Sometimes the waiting for a bite was a good thing. As he and I waited, we got to talk and share. I learned so much just by being content and patiently waiting for a fish to bite. Yeah it would have been great to catch fish all the time but I would have lost out on many of life lessons and things that my dad and I shared. Today’s verse is about the wait. Waiting patiently. We need to realize that just maybe God is allowing a long wait to teach us something.

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
