Proverbs 20:10

Scripture:

Proverbs 20:10 (ESV) “Unequal weights and unequal measures are both alike an abomination to the Lord.”

Observation:

“Just do it, no one will question you.” We had finished up the job early that day and when it was time to punch our timecards everyone was putting in for 8 hours of work. We had completed the job in under five hours, but most of the crew was putting down eight hours for the amount of time we worked. Today's verse speaks about unequal measures, and how they are an abomination to the Lord. If everyone did it, no one would know the difference. A few men began to question those who were putting the wrong amount of time down on the timecards. Sure we would all be paid more but that wasn't the point of the discussion. The men who wanted to put the false amount down were ready to fight over what was right and what was wrong. A few honorable men who did not want to lie ended up putting the right number of hours down because it was the right thing to do. I wonder, when the crowd says it is ok to do the wrong thing, do we have the courage to stand for the Truth, or for His Truth?

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
