Proverbs 16:24

Scripture:
Proverbs 16:24 - Pleasant words are a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones (NASB).
Observation:
Ever thought about a husband's sacrifice play? I began to think about the "sacrifice" play - you know, the one in baseball where the batter gives up his chance to go around the bases and score so that another can make it home. Jesus gave up His life so we can make it home, and it was done because of LOVE. I thought to myself, "Am I willing to give up my chance at bat so that another can make it home?" I pray that I will always give that up for my wife, but it shouldn't end there. It shouldn't be only for her but for anyone. Today's verse speaks that pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. I wonder how our words impact others. Are they a comfort or do they bring division? When I was a fire fighter, we wore a patch on our gear that had "ut vavant alli" - Latin for "that others may live." Those are good words to use in how a Christian should live - for others - I pray that we examine who we walk for ... ourselves or others in the name of Christ.
Application:
  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
