9 Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, 10 and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity. 11 But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank.
There are moments when the Biblical writers attempt to describe the beauty of the presence of God. Here, Moses and the elders of Israel catch a glimpse of the sapphire path that led to where God was seated. Isaiah attempts his own description, as does John at the outset of the book of Revelation. Taken together, and with a few others who were given such an amazing opportunity, we can easily conclude that the greatness of God is beyond real description.
Our lives can quickly fill up with the mundane, the familiar, and the demanding challenges that keep us from such sights. We can feel we’re almost drowning in the mud of life. But this is not our whole story, is it?
We are children of the most remarkable king, and He has a future for us that goes beyond the boundaries of our feeble imaginations. That’s your king!
So maybe such thoughts make today a bit brighter. Never forget that what you see today is not all there is. God has better days ahead tomorrow and a future that is beyond description!
