Praying for the City

“On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul.”  NKJV

I’m not sure what all happened as Paul preached in Antioch in Pisida but as a result of his preaching and huge crowd showed up the next week to hear the Word of God.  Unfortunately there were Jews who were not open to the gospel and out of jealousy stirred up opposition to the gospel message.  Unfortunately opposition often comes through the lives of “religious” people.  However, we cannot allow opposition, regardless of its source, to stop us from proclaiming the gospel.  People were still saved in that city regardless of the opposition.  Every outreach effort of the church into your city needs to be saturated with prayer.  While there may be opposition, there will also be people who believe the good news about Christ and become His followers.  As someone has said, keep praying and keep preaching and leave the results in God’s hands.
