17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
Lust can be defined as the desire for what we do not have. When we aim that desire to the possessions of others, relationships are at risk. Here, God commands that we keep our focus off of that which He has given to others.
At the core of this command, however, is the idea of being content with what God has already given to us. The best way to conquer the desire for what isn’t yours is to begin celebrating what is. Thankfulness is your weapon against lust.
Trust is when you desire what belongs to another and you abstain so as to do more than just damage that relationship. You will prevent yourself from being happy. For those who live for what they don’t have never find a way to enjoy what they do have.
Be grateful and rejoice in what you have and you’ll find the joy God intended you to have when He blesses your life with good things.
