Read Luke 4:28-30 – So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way. (NKJV)
It is obvious that Jesus was not welcome in the city. When I read this passage, I think of all the cities in America that have the same attitude and opinion of Jesus. In fact, it seems that some of these places are trying to get rid of Jesus just like this crowd did. My human response is to get angry, but anger does not change anything. My response needs to be one of prayer. “Lord, have compassion on these cities. Lord, forgive them for rejecting You. Lord, open their hearts to the gospel.” Challenge other men in your church and community to join with you in praying for your city. Jesus took care of Himself in that city. So, our focus is to not defend Jesus to your city, but to pray for your city.
