Thursdays with Joshua

Read Joshua 7:14-15 – “‘… In the morning therefore you shall be brought according to your tribes. And it shall be that the tribe which the Lord takes shall come according to families; and the family which the Lord takes shall come by households; and the household which the Lord takes shall come man by man. Then it shall be that he who is taken with the accursed thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’” (NKJV)

Never think that God doesn’t see. Joshua is frustrated and discouraged at the tragic loss of a battle, but there is sin in the camp that apparently none of the Israelites can see. One man has taken things for himself from Jericho and hidden them under his tent. Who sees? God sees his sin clearly. When the consequences of our wrong choices are delayed or don’t seem to be coming, we can get careless, thinking that as long as no one gets hurt it’s no big deal. But any act of disobedience dishonors God and must be dealt with either by repentance or His revelation. Nothing escapes His eye and nothing will escape His justice. Of course, we all fail and are incapable of achieving His acceptable standard of righteousness, so what should we learn here? We need to recognize that God sees everything so we should never become careless in our choices. We should make good choices and turn from every failure He reveals to our eyes.
