Wednesdays with Moses

Read Exodus 7:6-9 – Then Moses and Aaron did so; just as the Lord commanded them, so they did. And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh. Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’” (NKJV)

There’s a gap between these two paragraphs that’s very important to understand. Moses and Aaron did what God commanded and THEN God gave them miracles to prove that He was with them. The miracles didn’t precede obedience, but these two frightened servants stepped forward to follow God’s commands, and God was ready to affirm their faith. That’s what faith looks like—obedience amidst uncertainty. Jesus told His nervous disciples that signs would FOLLOW them too. Often we want God to launch us with His miraculous power, but faith is God’s preferred launch pad. When we obey, THEN He demonstrates that He is with us. That way, we accomplish His purpose and He builds faith in us that can help us overcome any moment.
