Read Exodus 4:14-17 – So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and He said: “Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. Now you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do. So he shall be your spokesman to the people. And he himself shall be as a mouth for you, and you shall be to him as God. And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.” (NKJV)
This is an interesting passage. God meets Moses’ reluctance and his inability to speak well with a plan. Aaron will be Moses’ mouthpiece. But notice what God says about Moses’ and Aaron’s partnership. Aaron will be Moses’ mouth and it will be as if Moses were God to Aaron. Now beyond the practical plan here there is the idea that as Moses tells Aaron what to say, he is like God to Aaron. Is that a part of God’s idea of what it means if He is God to us? It seems that a part of our relationship with God is described here as God putting His words in our mouth. Who speaks for God? Do you? The idea of serving God means many things for sure, but one part of its meaning is that we listen to God and speak what He speaks to us. Just as Aaron was Moses’ mouthpiece to Pharaoh and to the people, so God desires us to be His mouthpiece to the people in our lives.
