Read James 4:11 – Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. (NKJV)
James gives a very simple command—don’t speak evil against your brothers in the Lord. The word evil implies speaking slander about someone. If you are truly praying for someone, you will not speak against them. No one is perfect. We all have our flaws and shortcomings. Most of us do not need to be reminded of this. For instance, I’m an impatient driver. I know it, so you don’t have to tell me. Instead of telling other men of my impatience behind the wheel, pray that God will give me grace to be patient. Instead of speaking against a brother, pray for him and you will find his faults are not as big as you thought they were.
