Thursdays with Joshua

Read Numbers 14:6-8 – But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ (NKJV)

Those who trust God often find themselves in the minority. Most people trust themselves or perhaps the proven ability of others, but when it comes to trusting God, they are reluctant to believe He will act for them. Perhaps such faith struggles stem from thoughts that question God’s love. Maybe they flow from a lifetime of self-dependence or a fear of relying on others. But faith means trusting God will do what He has said He will do, even when—and especially when—we lack the ability to perform the task if He doesn’t act for us. Faith requires that I’m empty of myself. God will show me my part, but usually it’s a role in the greater drama He wants to unfold in my life. The best stuff is in His script—the one I can’t write by myself.
