Questions from a Wayward Man

Read Ecclesiastes 4:8 – There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. “For whom am I toiling,” he asked, “and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?”

Sad is the man who has no purpose in his life’s work. Most of us labor for the essentials when we are young. Somewhere in our existence many will begin to have funds beyond our immediate need. It is then that we either live to hoard or live with a purpose. The purpose may be to leave something to your children after you are gone. For others it may not be about money at all but about providing a better life for others. Somewhere along the way, providing for family or a ministry is necessary for fulfillment. Without “son or brother” you work in vain. The life lived with purpose will outlast the life lived!
