The Prayer Life of a Working Man

Read Nehemiah 1:10-11 – Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand. O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. (NKJV)

As Nehemiah prayed he reminded God that the people were His people. He asked God to hear the prayer of those who turn to Him and fear Him. This is a bold prayer considering the people had been so sinful and rebellious towards God. Nehemiah could be bold in prayer because he knew God was merciful. If we have been serving God for many years we have a tendency to approach Him on the basis of merit. Never approach God that way, ALWAYS approach God on the basis of His mercy. The working man knows his shortcomings, but also knows that God is merciful. It is because of His mercy that I can approach Him in prayer.
