Read Nehemiah 1:3-4 – And they said to me, "The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire." So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven. (NKJV)
Nehemiah was not a preacher. In fact, he was a civil servant who was actually working in a foreign government. He would be classified as a “working man.” Yet we see very quickly that Nehemiah also was a man of prayer. When he heard the condition of Jerusalem, his homeland, he immediately went to prayer. He wanted to see God intervene and work at home. Working men can be men of prayer. Each Monday, for the next few months we will examine the prayer life of this working man. Prayer is for ALL men, not just the preacher.
