Matthew 6:10

Scripture:

Matthew 6:10 “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.” (NASB)

Observation:

While working on a new house job site, I watched the master carpenter. I wanted to be one someday; and I was surprised to see him one morning sitting in his truck reading something. I thought maybe the plans for the new house, but as I got closer, he was reading a Bible. When I asked him why he was reading his Bible, he said, “I always ask God for His guidance for my day.” You see we cannot talk about ‘whose will be done’ without mentioning what Jesus told us when the apostles asked Jesus how to pray. Most of the time when we pray, we pray to get God to do what we want or to get us out of a specific situation. Maybe just maybe we are in that situation for a reason - to learn how to trust Him more or to realize that there are many times when our will is not the best thing but His will is. In fact, it should always be His will. The hard part with that is it means surrendering all of ourselves to Him and His will; and we don’t really like giving control of our lives to someone else. Here was a master carpenter being guided by the “Master Carpenter.” So the question is who guides you in the course of your day?

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
