1 Peter 5:8

Scripture:

1 Peter 5:8. “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (NASB)

Observation:

Why did God do this to me? How come God isn’t taking care of this? Why doesn’t God step in and take it all away? I am amazed when we have difficulties in life and immediately blame God. What about the devil? We never seem to blame him for anything. Think about it. When we fail in temptation our first thought is often, Why did God allow this? What about, Why does the devil do this? If we ask that question, we will come up with the answer: to keep us off track from where God wants us to be. So often, we never realize that the devil is there at every moment in our life to tempt us to fall away from the truth. The truth is God loves us and Satan doesn’t! He wants us never to grasp that thought. Think of the times in our life when we have lost sight of God and His commands and promises. Do the attacks seem to stop? Sure, Satan doesn’t have to try so hard to keep us away. We’ve done his dirty work all by ourselves. I pray that we come to realize just how Satan works, and we stand firm upon Christ.

Application:

  • Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
