Read Nehemiah 9:34-35 – Neither our kings nor our princes, our priests nor our fathers, have kept Your law, nor heeded Your commandments and Your testimonies, with which You testified against them. For they have not served You in their kingdom, or in the many good things that You gave them, Or in the large and rich land which You set before them; nor did they turn from their wicked works. (NKJV)
As Nehemiah prayed he stated that the leaders had not obeyed God nor served the Lord. That alone helps us understand why the people did not obey God. Unfortunately people have a tendency to follow the behavior of the leaders. What kind of example are you setting before your wife and kids? What kind of example are you setting in the work place? Be a man that obeys the Word and serves the Lord. Your godly example can have a powerful influence on others. God has given you what you need in order to serve Him.
